Cable Dome Vs. Air (AKA Covair) Dome

The stresses are predominantly taken up by the steel cable-net allowing the use of a more translucent membrane, creating a much lighter and spacious internal atmosphere. Lights are therefore not required during the day, greatly reducing electricity bills.

The added strength of steel cables allows the construction of a dome large enough to cover a football ground that can withstand higher wind forces.

The risk of vandalism is reduced by the steel cables.

The use of ground anchors is far less disruptive and a lot cheaper than a concrete foundation. It also allows the dome to be relocated to a different site at minimal cost. Due to the quilted effect of the fabric between the cables, internal acoustics are improved and echo is greatly reduced.

A thermal insulation layer is included, which saves on heating bills and makes an efficient noise barrier.

The normal unsightly layer of dirt on the dome membrane from trees, birds and atmospheric pollution causes a great reduction in light penetration. Changing the outer protective foil every 3 - 4 years, which is far cheaper than cleaning, easily eliminates this.
