Bolton Wanderers Football Club
Following a ruling by the Football Association that
any club wishing to maintain academy status must
have a covered practice ground there was a rush of
interest in air domes as the quickest and most cost
effective solution to the problem.
On 6th June 2002 a Cable Dome 40m x 60m was erected
to cover an artificial grass pitch that will
be used as a practice ground for young Bolton
Wanderer trainees. This was done in conjunction with
St. Joseph's College on their pitch, which is used
for multi-sports.
Twelve 2000W lights were mounted on curved
stanchions round the perimeter and aimed upwards to
reflect the light off the white roof membrane
thereby creating a clear uninterrupted space.
This is the first Cable Dome to be erected in the
UK for the football industry and was chosen by the
builder of the famous Reebok Stadium because of its
light and open feeling inside. Who will be second?
They are all delighted with the dome that is in
constant use every day.
